Scarlet Tanager

A visit from a scarlet tanager to your feeder is a special occasion, this shy bird migrates from South America for the summer and usually lives in treetops. The male is bright red, with black wings. The female is yellow-olive throughout the year.
The scarlet tanager eats insects and fruit, tanagers occasionally visit feeders for fruit, and more rarely for suet and bread.
Their shallow nest of grass, twigs, and roots are built by the male near the end of a branch, usually at a considerable height. Another very pretty bird.
